| Bootcut |
Cut slightly in to the knee then out slightly. |
| Clean |
Little shading, no distressing. |
| Distressed/Destroyed |
The worn-out look. Can vary from one or two slight marks to completely worn-out fronts. Hems and pockets usually worn-out, too. |
| Flare |
Cut tighter to the knee then out to a fuller width than the bootcut. |
| Peg-Leg |
Very narrow all the way down with a skinny ankle. Great to tuck into a boot for a streamlined look, but not for over a boot. Could wear with heels for a dressy look. Looks best with bigger sweaters and tunic length tops. |
| Rigid |
No Lycra. No stretch. |
| Rise |
The measurement in the front of the jean from the seam to the top. |
| Straight |
Similar to bootcut but less width at the bottom. Could fit into a looser boot (sometimes a little bulky) or over a narrow boot. |
| Stretch |
Has Lycra, though it can vary from 1-4%. |
| Tapered |
Wider down through the leg then tapers in at the bottom. |
| Trouser |
Usually a fuller cut through the hips and thighs with a wide bottom. |
| Wash |
Color and look of the jean. The lighter the color, the more involved the process. |
| Whiskering |
The appearance of "wrinkles" through a special process. These are usually located at the top front of the leg. |
